Anti-Graffiti Coatings

Anti-graffiti coatings are specially formulated finishes designed to prevent graffiti from permanently adhering to surfaces. They allow for easy removal of spray paint, markers, and other graffiti media without damaging the underlying substrate.

These coatings create a protective barrier that reduces surface adhesion. Graffiti can be removed quickly using mild cleaners or water, minimizing labor, chemical use, and damage to the surface.

  • Sacrificial coatings: Polymer or wax-based coatings that are removed along with the graffiti and require reapplication. Suitable for areas with infrequent vandalism.
  • Permanent anti-graffiti paints: Silicone-based paints that withstand multiple cleanings, ideal for concrete, stone, and painted surfaces.
  • Fluoropolymer-based coatings: Ultra-durable coatings with low surface energy, allowing repeated cleaning over decades. A&I fluoropolymer coatings are APAS-approved and used on trains, subways, bridges, and noise walls.
  • Waterborne coatings (e.g., Enviroflon 8480) are ideal for heavy-duty applications and provide excellent protection and surface appearance, while being environmentally friendly.
  • Solvent-based coatings (e.g., Vitreflon 744, Vitrethane 644) offer superior chemical resistance and long-term durability, making them perfect for tunnels, transport infrastructure, and high-risk areas.
  • Protects surfaces from permanent damage caused by spray paint, markers, and other media.
  • Reduces costs by minimizing repeated cleaning and the use of harsh chemical removers.
  • Maintains the aesthetic appearance of buildings, murals, and public spaces.
  • Enhances public safety perception, making spaces feel cleaner and more welcoming.

Yes, they can be applied to a variety of surfaces including concrete, stone, brick, metal, and previously painted surfaces. Choosing the right type of coating ensures optimal performance based on the substrate and expected level of graffiti.

It depends on the type:

  • Sacrificial coatings need reapplication after graffiti removal.
  • Permanent anti-graffiti and fluoropolymer coatings provide long-lasting protection and withstand multiple cleaning cycles.

No. High-quality coatings maintain the original aesthetics, preserving color, texture, and finish while providing protection.

Yes. Waterborne systems, in particular, reduce VOC emissions and minimize the need for harsh chemical cleaners during graffiti removal, offering an eco-friendly solution.
