The University of Queensland Global Change Institute building will demonstrate sustainable technological research and pilot innovative sustainable building solutions. This building demonstrates the commitment shown by the University of Queensland to sustainable practises. Through energy saving measures such as thermal chimneys, solar and wind power, solar airconditioning, DC power, operable layered facades to control light and air together, this project aims to achieve a 6 Star Green Star Education rating. The role of A&I in this project was to supply water borne low VOC protective coatings for the steel stairs, steel columns and trees, and the atrium.
The A&I Coatings specification:
Internal Steel:
- Abrasive blast clean to class 2.5 AS1627.9 to achieve a surface profile of 35-60 microns.
- Apply a first coat of Envirophos 2300 Zinc Phosphate primer to 75 microns DFT
- Apply a second coat of Enviroflon 8480 Fluoropolymer topcoat to 60 microns DFT
External Steel:
- Abrasive blast clean to class 2.5 AS1627.9 to achieve a surface profile of 35-60 microns.
- Apply a first coat of Envirophos 2300 Zinc Phosphate primer to 75 microns DFT
- Apply a second coat of Enviroset 2100 Micaceous Iron Oxide to 100 microns DFT
- Apply a third coat of Enviroflon 8480 Fluoropolymer topcoat to 60 microns DFT
