The Tumbalong Green Stage Upgrade in Darling Harbour was completed as part of a major NSW Government initiative to reinvigorate one of Sydney’s most active harbourside precincts.
Located in the heart of Darling Harbour on Sydney’s western CBD fringe, the upgraded stage now provides a modern, functional facility for live concerts, performances, festivals, exhibitions, and community events.

Designed for structural and architectural steel, the system delivers outstanding corrosion protection, long-term durability, superior UV resistance, and exceptional colour and gloss retention in demanding exterior environments.
The Tumbalong Green Stage Upgrade transformed an existing public performance space into a modern venue featuring a striking diagrid timber shell supported by bespoke steelwork. With the architectural steel exposed within a high-traffic outdoor environment, the project required a durable, long-lasting finish capable of maintaining the structure’s appearance while delivering reliable protection against weathering and ongoing public use.

The Tumbalong Green Stage Upgrade has revitalised a key public space within Darling Harbour, delivering a contemporary performance venue capable of hosting major events, festivals, and community gatherings. Designed by Hassell in collaboration with TTW, delivered by Kane Constructions, and with structural steel and painting works completed by Dunsteel, the project combines innovative architecture, sustainable materials, and
modern functionality to create a distinctive landmark on Sydney’s waterfront.
Applied across approximately 800m² of steelwork, A&I Coatings’ high-performance protective coating system helps ensure the long-term durability, corrosion protection, and visual appeal of the structure. The result is a striking and enduring public asset that will continue to serve the community while maintaining its architectural integrity for years to come.
