Riot was initially made for a public exhibition in Townsville created using aluminium and mirrored stainless discs. The artwork went on to win the acquisitive prize and was re-made using marine grade stainless steel. Riot refers to the raucous nature of the red tailed black cockatoos who live within the Townsville parks and gardens. They entertain visitors at dusk by flying in loud mobs, throughout the trees in the city. The mirrored discs allow visitors to see their own fun and playful activity reflected in the character of the cockatoos.
Projects like Riot highlight how material selection, finish, and protection all play a role in enhancing not only the physical structure, but also the interactive and visual experience for the public.
A huge shout out to Sam Moss who has once again pulled off a brilliant public outdoor sculpture exhibition. Brunswick Nature Sculpture Walk set in Brunswick Heads, NSW invites artists from near and afar to exhibit. The set up and organisation for this show can’t be underestimated and Sam knows how to look after her artists. I was fortunate to win this years prize with “Riot”. Thank you to everyone involved.
Bringing Art to Life with Performance Coatings
At A&I Coatings, we’re proud to support projects where creativity and advanced coating technology come together. Vitreflon 700 (V700) plays a key role in enhancing and protecting surface finishes, bringing out depth of colour and visual impact while delivering long-term durability. As a high-performance fluoropolymer coating, V700 helps ensure artworks maintain both their aesthetic appeal and performance in demanding outdoor environments.
Credits go to Carla Gottgens for her professional creative work across the arts and photography sectors, and also to Sam Moss for pulling off such an amazing outdoor sculpture exhibition.
