Glamis Road Bascule Bridge

The Glasshoughton Wheel of Light is a community memorial, standing in commemoration of the Glasshoughton Colliery and Coke Works around which the community was founded.

This was the first of many bridges in England which have been painted in a Vitreflon fluoropolymer paint system by forward thinking asset owners.

It won’t be long before they’re reaping the savings associated with an extended life to first maintenance.
The paint system supplied for this bridge was as follows:

  1. Steel substrate prepared in accordance with ISO 8501-2 St3
  2. 1st Coat – Vitreset 419 Surface Tolerant Epoxy pigment with Aluminium Flake – 125 microns DFT
  3. Stripe coat with Vitreset 419
  4. 2nd Coat – Vitreset 419 Surface Tolerant Epoxy pigment with Aluminium Flake – 125 microns DFT
  5. Final Coat – Vitreflon 790 Two pack Fluoropolymer Topcoat – 50 microns DFT
