No, E8020 is a penetrating primer that is specifically designed to help timber last longer outdoors.

E8055 is an excellent ‘free-sanding’ sealer. It dries fast, has excellent adhesion, and sands smooth very easily. In addition, it brings out the grain very nicely.

Thinning will depend on your method of application and the finish you are looking for. We recommend thinning up to 10%, and you can use water, E121 Wet Edge Extender, or a combination of both.

This depends on how ‘open’ the timber is being coated, but typically, brush and roller application can give a usage rate as low as 12 to 15m²/litre, while spraying (after overspray losses) may be more like 8m²/litre. Externally, you must make sure you apply the correct thickness as per the specification, and importantly, you must make sure that edges and corners are properly coated.

On a hot day, you’ll find that you can sand after not much more than an hour of drying time, but typically, you should allow a window of 3 to 4 hours.

We have found that #150 paper is very easy to use and provides an excellent finish. Always make sure you sand with the grain

E8060 may be brushed & rolled, or sprayed, and it will depend on the individual circumstances of each project which is the better means of application. Normally, spraying will provide a smoother finish, but under the hand of a careful painter, E8060 can be brushed and rolled to a perfect finish. If spraying, use a fairly fine tip or spray nozzle, and make sure you work to a technique that ensures very even coverage.
If rolling, thin up to 15% with either water or a 50:50 mix of water and E121 Wet Edge Extender, and use a good quality, tight weave, microfiber 9 to 12mm nap roller. For the best finish, work on 12 to 15m²/litre coverage per coat. For more than one coat, allow two hours dry time between coats, and if necessary, just very lightly denib using #240 paper.

E8060 has excellent UV resistance, and the complete system is excellent for some timbers and in some circumstances outside. The fact remains that timber is a natural product that expands and contracts significantly with variations in temperature and humidity, and as a result, any film forming product should only be applied to external timbers after thorough species focused testing.

No, E8060 is virtually odourless, and in the hands of a professional painter, it is an extremely safe product to use, both for workers and building occupants.
