Client Type:
Rail and transport infrastructure facility
Project Location:
Bendigo, Victoria
Application Area:
Internal workshop floors subject to pedestrian, vehicle, and equipment traffic with ongoing UV exposure
Primary Challenge:
Deliver a hardwearing, slip-resistant, UV-stable industrial floor system capable of withstanding heavy rail engineering operations, while maintaining fast turnaround and long-term visual performance.
Solution Applied:
Endurafloor RC UV multi-coat epoxy / polyurethane flooring system incorporating aluminium oxide aggregate and UV-stable polyurethane topcoat.
Result:
A seamless, durable, slip-resistant industrial floor with strong UV stability, rapid return-to-service, and long-term performance in a demanding operational environment.
The Bendigo Rail Workshops are an active rail engineering and maintenance facility requiring floor systems that can tolerate constant operational stress. The workshop environment experiences regular pedestrian movement, vehicle and equipment traffic, and exposure to sunlight through large access doors. These conditions place high demands on floor durability, safety, and long-term appearance.
The client required a flooring solution that would perform reliably under daily industrial use while maintaining a clean, professional finish appropriate for a major transport facility. Importantly, works needed to be completed efficiently to minimise disruption to ongoing operations.
The existing environment demanded a floor coating system that could deliver multiple performance outcomes simultaneously. The surface needed to be slip resistant for safety, durable enough to withstand heavy traffic, and resistant to UV exposure to prevent discolouration over time.
Environmental conditions added further complexity. Cold temperatures and elevated humidity increased the risk of surface bloom during application, while operational constraints required fast curing and rapid return-to-service. Any solution needed to balance performance, reliability, and installation efficiency.
To meet operational and safety requirements, the floor system was required to deliver:
A multi-coat Endurafloor RC UV system was selected to meet the project’s performance and environmental demands. The system combines a solvent-free epoxy base with a UV-stable polyurethane topcoat, delivering both structural durability and long-term colour stability.
Aluminium oxide aggregate was incorporated into the system to achieve the required slip resistance. With a Mohs hardness rating of 9, the aggregate provides exceptional abrasion resistance, ensuring long-lasting traction in high-traffic areas.
To mitigate the risk of bloom associated with cold and humid conditions, Vitrethane 633 polyurethane technology was specified for the final coat. This provided a fully UV-stable, high-performance finish capable of resisting discolouration even under sustained sunlight exposure.
Key implementation considerations included:
Results & Outcomes
The completed floor system delivered a seamless, light-reflective surface well suited to the demands of a rail engineering facility. The finished floor provides reliable slip resistance, strong chemical and abrasion resistance, and a durable UV-stable appearance.
Rapid curing enabled the workshops to return to full operational use with minimal downtime. The result is a safe, visually consistent, and low-maintenance industrial floor solution capable of supporting ongoing rail operations.
Why This Approach Worked
The Endurafloor RC UV system was selected based on its ability to address multiple performance challenges within a single, integrated solution. The combination of a robust epoxy base, high-hardness slip aggregate, and UV-stable polyurethane topcoat ensured the floor could withstand mechanical stress, environmental exposure, and safety requirements simultaneously.
By tailoring cure times and materials to site conditions, the system delivered both installation efficiency and long-term performance reliability.

Next Steps
For asset owners or operators managing high-traffic industrial environments, a technical assessment can help determine the most appropriate flooring system based on performance requirements, exposure conditions, and operational constraints.
