The iconic Crago Fountain in Machattie Park, Bathurst has been carefully restored to preserve its historic charm and ensure it remains a treasured feature for future generations.

The restoration works were completed throughout the month of June and included rust and paint removal, repairs, replacement of damaged or missing elements, and a full repaint. The project was delivered by Carters Engineering, contracted by Bathurst Regional Council, with funding received through the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

coating system featuring Vitreset 419 and Vitreflon 790.

Scope of Works:

As a historic public fountain exposed to the elements, the Crago Fountain required restoration and protection works to preserve its heritage character and visual appeal. The project included surface preparation, repairs to damaged areas, replacement of missing elements, and a full repaint to restore the fountain’s presentation. The finished coating system was designed to provide long-term durability, strong protection against weathering, and lasting colour retention in a public outdoor environment.

Project Outcome:

The restoration of the Crago Fountain successfully preserved one of Bathurst’s valued heritage landmarks, restoring its appearance while improving long-term protection against the elements. Delivered by Carters Engineering on behalf of Bathurst Regional Council, the project included extensive refurbishment, repairs, and repainting to retain the fountain’s historic character and intricate detailing.

Completed and officially reopened on 15 July 2025, the restored fountain now stands as a revitalised feature of Machattie Park, enhancing the experience for residents and visitors alike.
