Quality Epoxy, Polyurethane & Fluoropolymer Coatings

Singapore Flyer Refurbishment

Singapore

Project Details

System Used:
Vitreset 419 Surface Tolerant Epoxy
Vitreflon 790 High Build Fluoropolymer Topcoat

Why This System:

Vitreset 419:
Surface-tolerant epoxy mastic, fast-curing and ideal for steel and concrete surfaces where full preparation may be difficult. Excellent brush and roller application, available in multiple colours including aluminium pigmentation.

Vitreflon 790:
FEVE fluoropolymer topcoat providing exceptional UV, chalking, and weathering resistance. Available in a range of gloss levels
and unlimited colours, achieving high DFT in one coat and lowering lifecycle maintenance costs.
The combination delivers long-term protection, outstanding aesthetic appeal, and reduced maintenance requirements, perfectly suited for an
architectural icon of global significance.

The Singapore Flyer, one of the world’s most iconic observation wheels, towers 165 metres above Marina Bay and has offered breathtaking 360° views of Singapore, nearby Indonesia, and Malaysia since its opening in April 2008.
Seventeen years after its debut, A&I Coatings was selected to provide a durable, long-lasting coating solution for its refurbishment. The goal was to protect and maintain the structural steel and concrete surfaces while ensuring a high-quality aesthetic finish capable of withstanding Singapore’s harsh tropical environment.

Project Challenge:

  • The structure is exposed to high UV levels, heavy rainfall, and coastal conditions.
  • Long-term durability and colour retention were critical due to its prominence and visibility.
  • Minimal maintenance downtime was required to avoid disruption to operations.
  • Surfaces included both steel and concrete with varying preparation requirements.

Project Execution:

  • Surface preparation and cleaning were performed prior to coating
    application.
  • Vitreset 419 applied as a surface-tolerant base coat to all steel and
    concrete surfaces.
  • Vitreflon 790 applied as a high-build topcoat, achieving uniform coverage,
    exceptional gloss, and UV stability.
  • The coatings were applied to meet strict aesthetic and performance
standards, ensuring protection in a challenging tropical environment.

Results & Benefits:

  • Long-lasting protection for steel and concrete substrates
  • Excellent UV, colour, and gloss retention, even in harsh tropical conditions
  • Reduced maintenance frequency and costs, extending the asset lifecycle
  • Enhanced aesthetic appeal, maintaining the landmark’s iconic appearance
  • Trusted solution for specifiers and engineers, demonstrating FEVE technology performance

Outcome:

The refurbishment of the Singapore Flyer highlights the importance of selecting the right coating system for long-term performance, durability, and aesthetics. A&I Coatings’ Vitreset 419 + Vitreflon 790 combination ensures
world-class protection, reduces maintenance, and preserves the visual integrity of one of Singapore’s most famous landmarks.

Implementation Highlights

The Pakenham Station redevelopment exemplifies the successful integration of advanced digital fabrication techniques in public infrastructure projects. A&I
Coatings, working alongside ShapeShift, delivered an ultra-high-performance coating for the ShapeShell™ RT panels, contributing to a sustainable,
efficient, and architecturally distinctive station that serves as a model for future infrastructure projects.
