About the Project:
The West Gate Tunnel Project in Melbourne is a major infrastructure upgrade designed to improve traffic flow between the western suburbs and the CBD. Once complete, it will offer a key alternative to the West Gate Bridge, easing congestion and boosting freight efficiency by diverting thousands of trucks from local roads.
A&I Coatings collaborated with ShapeShift to deliver A&I Coatings Vitreflon 700 (V700) FEVE two-pack fluoropolymer topcoat for their ShapeShell™ RT advanced glass fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) facade panels. Applied to the bridge cladding, this coating system provides exceptional UV resistance, durability, and has very good application properties which lowers the maintenance cost of coatings in a variety of environments. Working alongside ShapeShift, a specialist cladding installation firm renowned for precision and efficiency on large-scale infrastructure projects, we ensured a high-performance solution tailored to the unique demands of this landmark development.

Located in Melbourne’s South-East, the new Pakenham Train Station is a premium commuter and regional railway hub on the Pakenham line. It has been designed to support the bustling pedestrian and shopping precinct, creating safer, more direct connections between public transport, additional parking, and the town centre.
For this project, A&I Coatings collaborated with ShapeShift to bring their ShapeShell™ RT canopy panels to life, a standout feature of the modern-designed station. Our contribution focused on the iconic roof canopy, inspired by Australia’s signature bronzed sunsets and the rolling hills of Pakenham, with its elegant, curved structure.
The panels were finished with VITREFLON 790, a high-performance, high-solids, two-pack fluoropolymer topcoat. Delivering exceptional UV resistance, colour retention, chemical resistance, and built-in graffiti protection, Vitreflon 790 provides a sleek, durable finish while reducing long-term maintenance costs across a wide range of environments.
