This beautiful bright red Bascule Bridge was one of the first in England to be coated with a Vitreflon fluoropolymer paint system by forward-thinking asset owners, demonstrating a commitment to long-term performance. The extended durability of this system means they will soon benefit from reduced maintenance costs over the life of the structure.
The Coating System applied to this bridge was as follows:
Steel Substrate: Prepared in accordance with ISO 8501-2 St3
1st Coat: Vitreset 419 Surface Tolerant Epoxy with Aluminium Flake – 125 microns DFT
Stripe Coat: Vitreset 419
2nd Coat: Vitreset 419 Surface Tolerant Epoxy with Aluminium Flake – 125 microns DFT
Final Coat: Vitreflon 790 Two-Pack Fluoropolymer Topcoat – 50 microns DFT
Fun Fact:
What is a bascule bridge?
A bascule bridge is a type of movable bridge that uses a counterweight to balance its span—or leaf—during its upward swing, allowing boats to pass beneath. Unlike vertical lift bridges, a bascule bridge provides a completely clear passage with no vertical obstruction when raised.
